ABOUT PEOPLE PLACES MAG
People – Places Mag was born three decades ago when I was in journalism school. Much has happened since I wrote out my magazine proposal for a class at New York University, but the project is an idea that I loved from the beginning and still do. So, many years later with a great deal of life experience to share, here it is, my dream.
With the hope of giving readers an in depth understanding of the world around them, People – Places Mag will show that cultures differ yet at the same time are similar. Environmental issues and creative ideas to make improvements big or small will be explored. In addition to feature stories, regular columns include: Languages of the World, On Being a Xenophile, Environmental Alert, Book Review, Art and Architecture, Transportation Adventures, and Making a Difference through mission trips and otherwise.
ABOUT ME
My name is Regina Marcazzo-Skarka, editor of People Places Mag. I am a writer, a journalist, and a lover of both travel and foreign languages.
I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics with a minor in Romance Languages from City University of New York, Hunter College; a Master’s Degree in Journalism from New York University; and a Master’s Degree in Teaching Foreign Language from SUNY Stony Brook. I have studied in France, and have studied, lived and worked in Italy. Having traveled to over 25 countries, my exploring the world has only just begun. I have also been part of numerous mission trips both domestic and international. I love getting to know people, their languages and their culture. A life dream is to speak five languages. I still have a ways to go. So far, I speak English, French, Italian and some Spanish. My goal is to improve my Spanish and to learn a language with a different alphabet, perhaps Arabic.
I retired one year ago after 17 years teaching high school French and Italian, but I have no intention of slowing down. Prior to teaching, I worked as a journalist, both freelance and as a staff writer for local Long Island, New York weeklies. I also spent two years as a United Nations employee in the Department of Public Information.
I am blessed with an awesome husband of 30 years and two children and their spouses.
